We would like to thank those who joined us for the Zanotta event on November 13th, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Sacco. Our special thanks to Martino Zanotta, Gian Rizzi and all the folks at Zanotta for their support. It was an occasion to remember that design is also fun - the bean bag was a crazy idea that became the most reconizable seat ever created. A number of Saccos will be on display at DZINE through the end of the year.

Focus

We are proud to announce the addition of Albed to our collection. Albed is an Italian manufacturer of doors and partition systems.

Featured projects: Future Hotel Room by German architects LAVA; the dutch architecture firm Powerhouse Company won the AM NAI prize 2008 with Villa 1.

Interview: Amanda Levete from Future Systems.

1968-2008 Sacco celebrates 40 years

From the moment the three architects from Turin arrived at Zanotta with a PVC “bag” ¾ filled with polystyrene balls and the idea of developing an industrial project, the Sacco armchair started on its special journey. From a cult object and icon of light, modern and informal design, it set an unquestionable all-time international record as one of the most important expressions of Italian creativity.

For the 40th anniversary Zanotta has created 40 limited edition versions of the Sacco, dressed up with haute couture fabrics. These were presented in Milan in April and now are travelling in museums exhibitions around the world.

The Sacco story is one of the most significant when it comes to a design product able not only to go beyond traditional project boundaries by entirely re-writing the rules, but also able to interpret and represent an age. In 1972 it went on display in New York’s MoMa and today, 26 international museums have added Sacco to their permanent collection of contemporary or applied art. In addition to the MoMa, it is on exhibit at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Triennial Design Museum in Milan.
