The Compasso d'Oro awards were recently given out for the best in design from the last three years. The most prestigious award for industrial design, the Compasso d'Oro ("golden compass" in Italian) originated in Italy in 1954 by the La Rinascente from an original idea of Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli. Since 1964 it has been hosted exclusively by Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI). It is the first and most recognized award in its field. The prize aims to acknowledge and promote quality in the field of industrial designs "Made in Italy" and is awarded by ADI. The Castiglioni brothers were instrumental in helping to establish the ADI and the Compasso d’Oro awards. Enzo Mari was president of the ADI from 1976 to 1979. The Compasso d'Oro was the first award of its kind in Europe and quickly took on an international dimension and relevance.
Please be sure to see the articles and events listed in the Design News section to the left. Also of note are a couple of articles on some local talent: Luke Ogrydziak and Zoë Prillinger of Ogrydziak Prillinger Architects were nominated in the Architects Directory of Wallpaper (see article); Mark Dziewulski is featured in Demanio, a very respected and old Italian architectural publication (see article).
